A Window Into Another World
Exploring the intersection of nostalgia, possibility, and the infinite unknown
Every summer vacation photo from the 1960s carries a certain optimism—families at the shore, chrome bumpers glinting in the sun, the future stretching endlessly ahead. I wanted to take that feeling and amplify it to cosmic proportions. In this piece, the familiar elements of beach nostalgia remain: vintage automobiles, people lounging on sand, the eternal promise of a perfect day. But above them, Earth hangs in the sky where the sun should be, tilted at an impossible angle, suggesting we are somewhere else entirely. The warm tones evoke vintage postcards and Kodachrome memories. The collision of the mundane (a day at the beach) and the extraordinary (an alien shore with Earth in view) creates a dreamlike quality. Where exactly are we? It doesn't matter. What matters is that feeling of being on the edge of something wonderful.
This is a postcard from somewhere between memory and imagination—a beach day that spans the solar system.
