A Window Into Another World
Exploring the intersection of nostalgia, possibility, and the infinite unknown
The American diner represents a kind of democratic space—anyone can sit at the counter, order a cup of coffee, and belong for as long as they stay. I wanted to take that feeling of casual belonging and extend it to the most hostile environment imaginable. Here, an astronaut sits on a chrome-and-vinyl diner stool that floats impossibly in space. The pose is relaxed, contemplative—this is not an emergency, but a moment of rest. Stars scatter behind like salt spilled on a black countertop. The juxtaposition is absurd, of course. But absurdity can reveal truth. Even as we explore the cosmos, we carry our small comforts with us. The diner stool becomes a tether to home, a reminder that wherever we go, we bring our human need for simple pleasures.
This piece is about finding the familiar in the infinite—a reminder that we carry home with us, even to the stars.
